For a hot rod, a U-bolt packer is a solid block inserted between the leaf spring and the axle to either raise or lower the vehicle’s ride height. For a “dropped” look, the blocks are placed under the leaf springs to lift the axle closer to the body. Longer U-bolts are required to accommodate the new block height.
